Musical Theatre Lyricist / Librettist
Lauren Gundrum is a NYC-based lyricist and librettist whose work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The NY Post and The NY Times. Lauren wrote the book and lyrics for PharmaBro: An American Douchical! (music by Joel Esher), which ran Off-Broadway at The Players Theatre from May 11th-June 17th, 2017. PharmaBro had a sold-out developmental run at The Workshop Theatre during the 2016 Midtown International Theater Festival.
Lauren was nominated for the MITF Outstanding Playwright Award, is a member of the Dramatist Guild, and a participant in the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Writing Program. She is currently writing the book and lyrics for Snowflake Island, a new musical inspired by the the “Pleasure Island” chapters of The Adventures of Pinocchio (music and lyrics by Alex Ratner).
A graduate of Duke University, Lauren minored in music, focusing on violin performance and began studying musical theatre writing through the Einhorn School of Performing Arts at Primary Stages. Lauren originally moved to NYC for a Doctoral Program in Forensic Psychology, but left the program after deciding that writing was a better way to explore the craziness of human relationships.
